Getting Started
Set up Focura in 6 steps
From account creation to your first focus session — a complete walkthrough.
Create your account
Sign up at focura-client.vercel.app using your email and password, or continue with Google OAuth for one-click access. Verify your email address when prompted — the confirmation link is valid for 24 hours.
Use Google OAuth to skip email verification entirely.
Your password is hashed with Argon2id — Focura never stores plaintext passwords.
You can change your email later from Settings → Account.
Create your first workspace
A workspace is the top-level container for all your projects, tasks, and team members. After signing in you will be prompted to create one. Give it a name (e.g. your company or team name), choose a colour, and optionally upload a logo.
You can own up to 3 workspaces on the free plan.
Workspace slugs are unique — used in URLs and invitations.
You can create additional workspaces from the workspace switcher in the sidebar.
Invite your team
Go to Settings → Members → Invite. Enter the email addresses of your team members and assign each a role. Invitations are sent via email and expire after 7 days. Members must have a Focura account (or create one) to accept.
Roles: Owner (full control), Admin (member & project management), Member (task access).
The free plan supports up to 5 members per workspace.
Pending invitations can be resent or cancelled from the Members page.
Create a project
Projects group related tasks together. Navigate to your workspace dashboard and click "New Project". Set a name, description, colour, start date, and due date. You can add specific team members to a project independently of the workspace.
Project roles: Manager, Collaborator, Viewer — independent of workspace roles.
Projects can be set to Active, On Hold, Completed, or Archived.
You can create up to 3 projects on the free plan.
Add your first task
Inside a project, click "New Task". Fill in the title, description, assignees, priority, due date, and labels. Tasks can be viewed across four views — List, Kanban, Calendar, and Daily — without any extra setup.
Press Shift+N anywhere in the dashboard to open the quick-create task dialog.
Tasks can have subtasks, dependencies, time entries, and file attachments.
Set a task as "Focus Required" to surface it in focus session suggestions.
Start your first focus session
Click the Focus button in the sidebar or navigate to Dashboard → Focus. Choose a mode: Pomodoro (25 min work / 5 min break), Deep Work (90 min uninterrupted), or Custom. Optionally link the session to a specific task for automatic time tracking.
Completed focus sessions are logged in Analytics → Focus Stats.
You can see your daily/weekly focus time on the Dashboard overview.
Focus session history is tied to your user account, not the workspace.

In-depth documentation
Navigate to any project and click "New Task", or press Shift+N from anywhere on the dashboard for the quick-create dialog. Every task has: title (required), description (markdown supported), status (Todo, In Progress, In Review, Blocked, Completed, Cancelled), priority (Urgent, High, Medium, Low), start date, due date, assignees, labels, and estimated hours. Tasks are saved automatically as you type.
Todo — not started yet. In Progress — actively being worked on. In Review — work done, awaiting approval or feedback. Blocked — cannot proceed due to a dependency or external factor. Completed — done and verified. Cancelled — will not be completed. You can change status from the task detail view, the List view, or by dragging the card to another column in Kanban view.
Open a task and click "Assignees". You can assign multiple team members. Assigned users receive an in-app notification (and optionally an email). Only workspace members can be assigned. You can filter the task list by assignee from the filter toolbar.
Open a task and scroll to the Subtasks section. Click "Add subtask" to create a child task. Subtasks support the same metadata as parent tasks (priority, due date, assignees, labels). Subtasks can be nested up to the depth limit. Completing all subtasks does not automatically complete the parent task — you must do that manually.
Open a task and go to the Dependencies tab. Add blocking dependencies (this task cannot start until another finishes) or related tasks (informational link). The Kanban and List views will show a "Blocked" indicator on tasks with unresolved dependencies. You can break the dependency at any time by removing it.
Open a task and toggle on "Recurring". Choose a pattern: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Custom. Set an optional end date or leave it open-ended. On each recurrence date, a new task is created automatically with the same title, description, priority, and assignees. The original task is not affected.
In List view, check the checkbox on the left of multiple tasks to select them. The bulk action toolbar appears at the bottom: Change status, Change priority, Assign to member, Add label, Move to project, Delete. Bulk operations work across all selected tasks simultaneously.
Use the filter toolbar above the task list to filter by: status, priority, assignee, label, due date range, creation date, and energy type. Combine multiple filters — they are AND conditions. Sort by: due date, priority, creation date, title (alphabetical), or last updated. Filters and sorts persist for your session but are not saved per user yet.
Each task has a "Focus Required" toggle. When enabled, the task is surfaced as a suggestion when you start a focus session. You can also set the focus level (1–5) and energy type (Low, Medium, High) to help the system suggest tasks appropriate for your current energy state during planning.
Open a task and go to the Time Entries tab. Click "Log time" to manually add a time entry with a start time, end time, and optional description. Time entries can be marked as billable. Total logged time is shown on the task card. All time entries roll up into workspace Analytics under the Time Tracking section.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Account & Access
No — all Focura features require an account. You can sign up free at focura-client.vercel.app with your email or Google account. No credit card is required for the free plan.
One account per email address. However, you can be a member of many workspaces with a single account. If you need to separate work contexts, use different workspaces rather than different accounts.
Focura automatically refreshes your session silently 1 minute before the access token expires. You should not notice any interruption. If the refresh fails (e.g. network issue or revoked token), you will be redirected to the login page.
Yes — Settings → Account → Profile → Email. You will be asked to verify the new email address before the change takes effect. Your old email address will receive a notification that the email was changed.
Workspaces & Teams
Free plan: up to 3 workspaces owned by you. You can be a member of unlimited workspaces owned by others. Paid plans increase the ownership limit.
Not directly — tasks belong to a workspace and cannot be transferred. You can duplicate a task's details manually. Cross-workspace task migration is a planned feature.
Owner: full control — billing, delete workspace, all settings. Admin: manage members, create/delete projects, all task operations. Member: create and manage tasks, view projects they are added to, upload files, use focus sessions. Guests have limited read access.
No — one workspace can have exactly one Owner. The Owner can transfer ownership to another member from Settings → Workspace → Transfer Ownership. After transfer, the previous Owner becomes an Admin.
Tasks assigned to the removed member remain in the workspace and retain the assignment in the audit log, but the person can no longer access or act on them. You should manually reassign their tasks before or after removal.
Tasks & Projects
There is no hard limit on tasks on any plan. Task limits are not a factor — only member count, project count, and storage are plan-limited.
Not yet — the workspace switcher shows one workspace at a time. A unified cross-workspace task view is a planned feature. For now, use the workspace switcher in the top-left sidebar.
Blocked means the task cannot proceed until another task or an external factor is resolved. You set this manually. When you add a dependency to a task, the blocked state is indicated automatically in Kanban and List views.
Full data export (JSON) is available from Settings → Account → Privacy → Export Data. A CSV export of tasks specifically is a planned feature. Exports are emailed to your registered address.
A new task is created on the recurrence date regardless of whether the previous instance was completed. Both tasks coexist independently. Recurring tasks do not block each other.
Focus Sessions
The timer is browser-based and pauses when you close the tab or navigate away. For the best experience, keep the Focura tab active during your session. We recommend using it alongside your device's Do Not Disturb mode.
Focus session data is tied to your individual user account. Workspace Admins and Owners can see aggregated team focus metrics in analytics but cannot see your individual session content or linked task details.
Yes — linking a task is optional. Unlinked sessions are still counted in your focus statistics. No time entry is created for unlinked sessions.
Billing & Payments
All major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) via Stripe. Stripe also supports Link (one-click checkout) and some regional payment methods. Invoicing and bank transfer are available on Enterprise plans only.
No data is deleted on downgrade. However, if your workspace exceeds free plan limits after downgrade (e.g. more than 5 members or 3 projects), new actions on those items are blocked. Existing data remains readable.
No. All payment data is handled by Stripe, our Merchant of Record. Focura only stores a Stripe customer ID and the last 4 digits of your card for display purposes. No full card numbers are ever stored on Focura's servers.
Paddle (our payment processor on some plans) handles tax compliance including VAT collection and remittance. VAT invoices are included in your billing receipts automatically if you are in a VAT-applicable jurisdiction.
Privacy & Security
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2+ and at rest using AES-256. Passwords are hashed with Argon2id. Authentication uses RS256-signed JWTs stored in HTTP-only cookies — they are not accessible via JavaScript.
Tasks belong to workspaces. All members of a workspace can see all tasks within it by default. Project-level visibility is controlled by project membership — tasks in a project are only visible to project members and workspace Admins/Owners.
You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Danger Zone. Personal data is purged within 30 days per our Privacy Policy. For a specific data deletion request without deleting your account, email privacy@focura.app.
Never. Focura does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Analytics cookies are opt-in only. See our Privacy Policy at /privacy for the full breakdown of what we collect and why.
