Getting Started

Set up Focura in 6 steps

From account creation to your first focus session — a complete walkthrough.

01

Create your account

Sign up at focura-client.vercel.app using your email and password, or continue with Google OAuth for one-click access. Verify your email address when prompted — the confirmation link is valid for 24 hours.

Use Google OAuth to skip email verification entirely.

Your password is hashed with Argon2id — Focura never stores plaintext passwords.

You can change your email later from Settings → Account.

02

Create your first workspace

A workspace is the top-level container for all your projects, tasks, and team members. After signing in you will be prompted to create one. Give it a name (e.g. your company or team name), choose a colour, and optionally upload a logo.

You can own up to 3 workspaces on the free plan.

Workspace slugs are unique — used in URLs and invitations.

You can create additional workspaces from the workspace switcher in the sidebar.

03

Invite your team

Go to Settings → Members → Invite. Enter the email addresses of your team members and assign each a role. Invitations are sent via email and expire after 7 days. Members must have a Focura account (or create one) to accept.

Roles: Owner (full control), Admin (member & project management), Member (task access).

The free plan supports up to 5 members per workspace.

Pending invitations can be resent or cancelled from the Members page.

04

Create a project

Projects group related tasks together. Navigate to your workspace dashboard and click "New Project". Set a name, description, colour, start date, and due date. You can add specific team members to a project independently of the workspace.

Project roles: Manager, Collaborator, Viewer — independent of workspace roles.

Projects can be set to Active, On Hold, Completed, or Archived.

You can create up to 3 projects on the free plan.

05

Add your first task

Inside a project, click "New Task". Fill in the title, description, assignees, priority, due date, and labels. Tasks can be viewed across four views — List, Kanban, Calendar, and Daily — without any extra setup.

Press Shift+N anywhere in the dashboard to open the quick-create task dialog.

Tasks can have subtasks, dependencies, time entries, and file attachments.

Set a task as "Focus Required" to surface it in focus session suggestions.

06

Start your first focus session

Click the Focus button in the sidebar or navigate to Dashboard → Focus. Choose a mode: Pomodoro (25 min work / 5 min break), Deep Work (90 min uninterrupted), or Custom. Optionally link the session to a specific task for automatic time tracking.

Completed focus sessions are logged in Analytics → Focus Stats.

You can see your daily/weekly focus time on the Dashboard overview.

Focus session history is tied to your user account, not the workspace.

In-depth documentation

Navigate to any project and click "New Task", or press Shift+N from anywhere on the dashboard for the quick-create dialog. Every task has: title (required), description (markdown supported), status (Todo, In Progress, In Review, Blocked, Completed, Cancelled), priority (Urgent, High, Medium, Low), start date, due date, assignees, labels, and estimated hours. Tasks are saved automatically as you type.

Todo — not started yet. In Progress — actively being worked on. In Review — work done, awaiting approval or feedback. Blocked — cannot proceed due to a dependency or external factor. Completed — done and verified. Cancelled — will not be completed. You can change status from the task detail view, the List view, or by dragging the card to another column in Kanban view.

Open a task and click "Assignees". You can assign multiple team members. Assigned users receive an in-app notification (and optionally an email). Only workspace members can be assigned. You can filter the task list by assignee from the filter toolbar.

Open a task and scroll to the Subtasks section. Click "Add subtask" to create a child task. Subtasks support the same metadata as parent tasks (priority, due date, assignees, labels). Subtasks can be nested up to the depth limit. Completing all subtasks does not automatically complete the parent task — you must do that manually.

Open a task and go to the Dependencies tab. Add blocking dependencies (this task cannot start until another finishes) or related tasks (informational link). The Kanban and List views will show a "Blocked" indicator on tasks with unresolved dependencies. You can break the dependency at any time by removing it.

Open a task and toggle on "Recurring". Choose a pattern: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Custom. Set an optional end date or leave it open-ended. On each recurrence date, a new task is created automatically with the same title, description, priority, and assignees. The original task is not affected.

In List view, check the checkbox on the left of multiple tasks to select them. The bulk action toolbar appears at the bottom: Change status, Change priority, Assign to member, Add label, Move to project, Delete. Bulk operations work across all selected tasks simultaneously.

Use the filter toolbar above the task list to filter by: status, priority, assignee, label, due date range, creation date, and energy type. Combine multiple filters — they are AND conditions. Sort by: due date, priority, creation date, title (alphabetical), or last updated. Filters and sorts persist for your session but are not saved per user yet.

Each task has a "Focus Required" toggle. When enabled, the task is surfaced as a suggestion when you start a focus session. You can also set the focus level (1–5) and energy type (Low, Medium, High) to help the system suggest tasks appropriate for your current energy state during planning.

Open a task and go to the Time Entries tab. Click "Log time" to manually add a time entry with a start time, end time, and optional description. Time entries can be marked as billable. Total logged time is shown on the task card. All time entries roll up into workspace Analytics under the Time Tracking section.
